The Yurt, For-rest Retreat

About the Class:

Evolutionary astrology is a unique astrological approach that uses the symbolism of traditional Western astrology while recognizing both the wisdom and patterns/stories of a soul throughout numerous lifetimes. It gives an individual, as well as couples, children, and families, a lens to work with in order to know themselves in a deep and intimate way, uncovering patterns that we might call ‘karmic’ or ‘epigenetic,’ as well as offering access to one’s evolutionary trajectory for healing, integration, and evolution.
This workshop will be an introduction to the lens of Evolutionary Astrology and will give participants tools for working with their own natal or birth charts, moving through the symbolism in an efficient and succinct way. We’ll also touch on working with current event charts in order to facilitate skillful alignment with the universe in any given moment!

Approved Reflexology Practitioner

Jackie Jonkheid
Sunday, May 22, 10:30am-11:45am
The Casita, For-rest Retreat

About Jackie:

Jackie Jonkheid, Approved Reflexology Practitioner of BC

Health, nature and natural resources have held her interest since Jackie was a child. When she lived in the Dutch Caribbean in the 1980’s, she came into touch with reflexology for the first time. Close friends wanted to have a child, and for eight years relied on mainstream medicine, with no result. Their friend suggested the couple try reflexology. After a series of reflexology treatments each, the couple conceived. That impressed Jackie so much, that she wanted to get to know more about this natural healing method. She began researching reflexology and using the acquired knowledge by applying the therapy on herself.

Initially Jackie worked in the environmental sector for several years. When her employer restructured the organization, she took the opportunity to develop her interest in reflexology. Two years after enrolling in the International Study of Naturopathic Reflexology at De Wouden Study Programme, she received her diploma, followed by a study of Mainstream Basic Medical Knowledge at the Arnhem University of Applied Sciences for Naturopathy in the Netherlands. As a practicing reflexologist member of the Reflexology Association of British Columbia, Jackie has an ongoing access to new insights and developments in this natural healing method.

Jackie has practiced reflexology at home and in public practices in the Netherlands and the Kootenays since 2002. It is her passion to help people feel good and create a feeling of blissful relaxation for people of all ages, even babies!

Reflexology is a therapeutic method of relieving pain anywhere in the body by stimulating pressure points of the feet. The neurological theory behind reflexology states that reflex areas in the feet correspond to all the glands, organs and musculoskeletal systems in the human body. Reflexology works similar to acupuncture which incites one single point whereas reflexology affects the surrounding skin and underlying structures by pressure point massage. A treatment achieves improved blood circulation, increases stamina, improves the balance between body and soul, and can simply promote relaxation. Reflexology can relieve discomforts, such as: fatigue, backache, headache and migraine, digestion disorders, hormonal and neural disorders, infertility, insomnia, and many more…

Many physicians consider reflexology a good supplementary healing along with conventional treatments. This healing method often speeds up recovery processes. Jackie does not make diagnosis nor prescribes any conventional medicine. For this matter, consult your doctor.

Jackie works from the knee down, with a focussed gentle pressure on the skin of feet and lower legs. It would be handy to wear loose pants or a skirt during treatments.

Physiotherapist

Todd Van Der Star
Sunday, May 22, 4:30pm-5:45pm
The Casita, For-rest Retreat

About Todd:

After moving to Ymir in 2015, Todd fell intensely in love with everything that the Salmo valley has to offer. He came here for the mountains, people and lifestyle. After moving from Ymir to Salmo in 2021, he has found an even deeper connection with this village in laying the roots involved with raising a family. He feels strongly invested in this community and loves to hear the stories of his community members. He has found physiotherapy is a great way to have a positive influence in these stories and contribute to the overall well-being of a community.

This profession allows the practitioner to employ a diverse treatment toolkit on any given day, which definitely helps when answering the question in Todd’s head “how can I best help this person today?”. In a mini session at Dandelion festival, expect to work through a short functional movement screen (a big picture look at your movement) and go home with a couple ideas for exercise to address any mechanical or motor control issues. Or, come with a specific problem and explore ideas with Todd.
