Salmo Valley Youth & Community Centre and its leaders, directors, officers, employees, contractors, agents, volunteers, members and representatives (collectively referred to as “Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre or SVYCC”), are not responsible for any injury,
loss or damage of any kind whatsoever sustained by any person or their property while participating in events, activities or travel with SVYCC and all related activities associated with SVYCC, including injury, loss or damage.
LOCAL NEIGHBOURHOOD EXCURSION CONCENT
At various times throughout the program participants may be accompanied by their facilitator on local excursions within walking distance of SVYCC. These excursions include but are not limited to trips to the park, local walking trails, nature spots including creeks and rivers, swimming pool, ice skating rink and sports fields. These are generally considered low risk and staff take reasonable measures to protect participants. Potential known risks include the following: physical injury arising from slips, trips and falls (scrapes, bruises, sprains and strains, concussion, head injury, broken bones); more serious injury arising from collisions with other vehicles or cyclists; loss of property; participant feelings of stress or anxiety (e.g., if separated from the group) and other unanticipated risks arising from participation in outdoor activities or the environment or inclement weather. If you are aware of any reason why your child may not be able to safely participate in these events, please make sure you notify SVYCC staff.
ASSUMPTION OF RISKS
IN CONSIDERATION OF Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre allowing me or my child to participate in events, activities, or travel with SVYCC and all related activities associated with SVYCC, including all events on and off the SVYCC property and all activities related to the Youth Group (collectively referred to as the “Activities”), I acknowledge that I am aware of the possible Risks, Dangers and Hazards associated with participation in the Activities including the possible risk of severe or fatal injury to myself or others.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY and AGREEMENT
IN CONSIDERATION OF Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre allowing me or my child to participate in the Activities, I agree on behalf of myself and/or my child:
1. TO ASSUME and ACCEPT ALL RISKS arising out of, associated with or related to my or my child’s participation in the Activities.
2. TO WAIVE and RELEASE Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre from any and all liability for any loss, damage, injury or expense that I or my child may suffer, or that my next of kin may suffer as a result of my or my child’s participation in the activities due to any cause whatsoever.
3. TO INDEMNIFY and HOLD HARMLESS Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre from any and all liability for any damage to the personal property of, or personal injury to, any third party resulting from my or my child’s participation in the activities.
4. TO INDEMNIFY and HOLD HARMLESS Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre from any and all claims, demands, actions and costs for any loss, injury, damage or expense whatsoever that might arise out of my or my child’s participation in the Activities.
Acknowledgment of Participant
I, the undersigned Participant, understand that I am expected to act in a safe, respectful, and responsible manner at all times. I agree to follow the instructions and directions of those in charge of SVYCC programs, including designated leaders and volunteers, and to comply with all safety rules and expectations. I understand that I am responsible for my behaviour and actions at all times.
During sports, outings, and other activities, I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to use and wear appropriate safety equipment as required. I will not engage in behaviour that could put myself or others at risk.
I understand that I may be photographed or appear in video recordings for purposes deemed appropriate by SVYCC.

Acknowledgment of Parent or Guardian
We, the undersigned Parent(s) or Guardian(s), give permission for the Participant to take part in SVYCC programs and activities, including transportation arranged by program leaders as needed.
In the event of an accident, injury, or illness, we authorize program leaders to seek and obtain medical care for the Participant, including transportation to the nearest suitable medical facility if necessary. We consent to any emergency medical treatment deemed advisable by qualified medical professionals.
We understand and consent to the Participant being photographed or appearing in video recordings for purposes deemed appropriate by SVYCC.
We have read and understand the SVYCC youth code of conduct, have reviewed it with our participant and understand the consequences and steps that will be taken to remediate behavioural concerns.
SVYCC Youth Programs Code of Conduct
All participants are expected to follow these guidelines while attending SVYCC programming:
Behaviour and Respect
- Treat others with respect. Do not pick on, harass, or discriminate against others, including verbal or physical actions.
- Use kind and appropriate language. Avoid profanity, derogatory, or belittling comments. Follow the “Golden Rule”—treat others as you would like to be treated.
- Respect property. Take care of shared spaces, equipment, and personal belongings. Clean up after yourself.
- Be a positive role model. Your actions and words reflect on the group and community.
Safety and Participation
- Stay with the group unless given permission by a leader.
- Follow instructions from facilitators and volunteers.
- Participate to the best of your ability in activities.
- Report concerns to a leader if you feel unsafe or notice something concerning.
- Do not use or possess alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, or other harmful substances.
- Be mindful of online behaviour. Respect others on social media and in digital spaces connected to SVYCC.
Consequences for Violations
- Verbal Warning: For minor concerns.
- Parent/Guardian Contact: For more serious or repeated behaviour.
- Sanctions: May include loss of privileges or temporary suspension.
- Exclusion: Ongoing or serious violations may result in longer-term or permanent removal from programming.
